NHS Health Check

Implementation of the NHS Health Check Programme began in April 2009. This large scale government initiative is designed to prevent Cardiovascular Disease, by inviting all patients aged between 40-74, who have not been previously diagnosed with a CVD condition for a NHS Health Check. The check involves assessing the patient for their risk of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Kidney Disease and Stroke. Each patient is then given the appropriate level of advice and support to help them reduce or manage their risk.

Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) are currently responsible for the management of the NHS Health Check Programme and Health Intelligence understands the PCTs are taking slightly different approaches to implementing the NHS Health Check.
