Health Intelligence has recently (April 2011) entered the Diabetic Retinopathy Screening (DRS) managed service business with a new contract to screen over 85,000 patients with diabetes across six PCTs in East Anglia.

Health Intelligence provides a high quality, comprehensive DRS service to assist our clients identify, screen and monitor patients with diabetes and at risk of Retinopathy.   Close liaison with the Hospital Eye Service is delivered to ensure patients that require treatment to prevent sight loss are managed appropriately,

Our Approach

We provide a comprehensive managed service to cover all aspects of a quality DRS programme and in full compliance with the national standards and best practice.

Our managed service:

  • Establishes and maintains an accurate population based register of all those with diabetes; and helps to resolve data quality issues which results in identifying a further 9% of patients who should be included with the DRS programme
  • Operates an efficient patient call, recall and booking service
  • Provides trained and accredited Retinal Screeners/Graders
  • Makes use of modern software to assist in the screening and grading of retinal images and identifying patients in need of a hospital referral
  • Delivers performance and clinical reporting to national standards.

  • Internal Quality Assurance of the Grading Service conducted as standard and based on a 10% random sample to assure the Commissioner of the DRS Programme’s Sensitivity and Specificity.
